Sahakari Exercise: Class 12 Nepali Chapter 11
Summary of Class 12 Nepali – Chapter 11: Sahakari (Co-operatives)
The chapter titled, Sahakari (Co-operative) defines, explains the need and significance of co-operatives related to the economic development of Nepal. Cooperative–a cooperative is an organization consisting of a group of people who share a common interest and is formed to provide mutual social and economic benefit to the members through collaboration.
The modern cooperative system was developed in Britain and introduced in other parts of the world but Nepal also used to have different forms of cooperation some decades ago itself such as Guthi, Bharopram, Aichopaicho, and Melpat, and this indicates that Nepal has a long tradition of cooperation among sets of people.
The principles of cooperatives are voluntary & open membership, democratic member control, member economic participation, autonomy & independence, education, training & information and concern for community and cooperation among cooperatives. Their central motto is:
- Freedom through self-reliance, development through cooperation)
- The chapter highlights how cooperatives:
- Encourage self-employment and discourage foreign employment.
- Be local-oriented by national revenue and resource usage.
- Promoting local available raw material, helping in retaining identity of Nepal.
- Create marketplaces to promote and organize native products from household owners and small producers
- Be integral components of agriculture, water resources, tourism, and cottage industries;
The beauty of cooperatives is when people come together and pool average size investments, skills, and technology from the community to create a goliath of a project that reaps endless dividends. They literally convert “one drop 1 gaggro” (small effort, big impact)!
Cooperatives provide employment, encourage sustainable development and contribute towards a self-reliant national economy. If creative youth are actively engaged and managed well, Nepal can turn into a happy and prosperous state.
